If you feel your confidence ebbing in a situation or in your mind, think of a person or character you know, have read about, or seen whose confidence you admire, perhaps wish to emulate, and “slip into” their personna.
Do you admire how Taraji P. Henson portrayed Katherine Johnson standing up to Kevin Costner’s AL Harrison about how segregation of bathrooms negatively impacted her ability to finish her work in a timely manner in “Hidden Figures”?
Were you moved by the strength and raw power Janelle Monáe’s character Eden displayed in “Antebellum”, her defiance in the face of unspeakable, seemingly insurmountable evils sizzling like a live wire?
Or perhaps Carey Mulligan’s perseverance as Maud Watts from “Suffragette” when faced with sexism in the workplace, ostracized from her household and family, struck a chord with you?
When we are faced with difficulties in life we often question whether we “have what it takes” to overcome. If you ever face yourself shrinking away from a challenge in life think instead of what another person or character you admire would do if faced with your odds.
What would they say or do?
Channel their raw energy, tempered with humility, conviction, and sincerity, and you’ll find there is hardly a single challenge in life you could meet and from which you could not rise.
