If we spend all our time focusing on the mistakes we’ve made it can be all too easy to slip into a negative feedback loop which can reduce our confidence over time.
Have you ever become so engrossed when watching a show or movie, attached to some character’s exploits, you find yourself cheering them on? And, when they came out victorious, did you feel a small sense of triumph for them?
Or if you’re into sports— do you have a team you support, maybe for which you root on and cheer when they win?
As a kid, were you the kind of child who had good grades expected at all times (with only punishment for bad grades) or were you the kind who had little rewards here and there for good grades or behaviors?
Whatever sort of person you have been in the past, it’s time you become a celebrator now.
As adults, especially, we often lose sight of our personal victories in the daily grind. We can grow so bogged down by our lists of “to do”s, projects hanging in the balance, deadlines, appointments or meetings, trying to balance work and home life (that’s a subject we’ll touch upon fairly often here), and any other daily minutiae that we often lose sight of how far we’ve come and how well we’re doing.
Make room for celebrating the victories you’ve made, even if they seem marginal.
Did you wake up?
Did you get ready for the day?
Did you finish at least one task today?
Did you eat something?
Did you brush your teeth?
Did you drink water?
Those may seem small but if you answered yes to any of them then congratulations! You are victorious!
Not every day has to be the most spectacular, nor your most triumphant, day ever. Make room for “mundane” victories and congratulate yourself on the activities you do each day to create the foundation for your future!
Remember to celebrate the strengths you have, take time to celebrate all your victories and capabilities, no matter how small, and appreciate your own personal capabilities and culpability.
